The Volunteer Millers’ February event will host a “Celebration of American Native Culture through Music and Dance” featuring Kimberly Sigafus of Freeport, IL. She will emphasize the importance of Native ceremonies, including how and why music and dance are the key components. Traditional songs of the pow wow circle, utilizing instruments such as the drum and the rain stick, will be performed. Sigafus will outline a brief history of the Ojibwa people.
The presentation will be Sunday, February 2, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., at the Windmill Cultural Center, 111 Tenth Avenue, in Fulton, IL, across from the authentic Dutch windmill.

Sigafus is an internationally published author/speaker from White Earth Reservation in Minnesota. Her Native name is Bekaadiziikwe or “Quiet Woman.” Having given several Midwest presentations in her Native dress, she also has authored an array of children’s picture books, plays, and adult fiction and non-fiction.
