February 18 Sheriff’s Report

Charges listed below are accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

On 2/18/14 at about 6:05 a.m., Whiteside County Deputies responded to a vehicle vs bicyclist crash at 6th Avenue and 28th Street, Sterling, IL.  Investigation revealed David A. Vargas, 56, of Sterling, was riding his bike southbound on 6th Avenue, when he was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Adam Armstrong, 24, of Rock Falls, IL.  Vargas was transported to CGH Medical Center by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries.  Armstrong was arrested for Driving While License Suspended and a Whiteside County Warrant for Failure to Appear/Pay on a DUI charge.  He was transported to the Whiteside County Jail.

On February 16, 2014, Whiteside County Deputies responded to a Burglary in progress at a business on Westwood Drive, in rural Sterling, IL.  Deputies arrived on scene, as well as Officers from Sterling Police and Rock Falls Police Departments.   When officers arrived the subjects were coming out of the business.  Taken into custody following a short foot chase was Jakob W. Battles, 18 years old of Sterling.  Officers were then able to track the other two subjects, who fled the scene.  Arrested was 19-year-old Gary J. Rimington and 19-year-old Branden Martin of Sterling.  All three subjects were charged with Burglary.  Whiteside County Deputies were assisted at the scene by Sterling Police and Sterling K-9 Officers and Rock Falls Police.

02-15-14 at 1:15 p.m.  Nicole M. Leal, age 27 of Tampico, IL, as arrested for Improper Driving on the Shoulder of a Roadway and two counts of DUI.  She was processed at the Rock Falls Police Department and released on a Notice to Appear.  R & K Towing assisted on scene.

02-15-14 at 11:25 a.m.  Winston T. Marshall, age 18 of Rock Falls, IL, was stopped for speeding on U. S. Route 30 west of Morrison, IL.  He was arrested for Speeding 70/55 MPH and Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.  His Illinois Driver’s License was posted as bond, and he was issued a written warning for Failure to Notify the Secretary of State of an address change.

02-12-14 at 8:30 a.m.  Andrew E. Snow, age 23 of Rock Falls, IL, was arrested at his residence on a Lee County Warrant for Contempt of Court.  He was transported to Lee County.

02-11-14 at 3:00 p.m.  Trevor J. Summers, age 33 of Sterling, IL, was arrested in Sterling for Driving While License Suspended.  He was released on a Notice to Appear.  Slim-n-Hank’s Towing assisted on scene.

02-07-14 at 4:50 a.m.  Whiteside County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a single-vehicle roll-over crash on Henry Road near Deer Trace, Morrison, IL.  Upon investigation, Derek A. Stevens, age 23 of Morrison, was driving northbound on Henry Road when he lost control of his vehicle and hit a snow bank, causing his vehicle to roll over onto the roadway.  Stevens was not injured in the crash, but he was arrested for Driving Too Fast for Conditions as well as two counts of DUI.  He was processed at the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office and released on bond.  Morrison Police and Hunter’s Towing assisted on scene.

02-07-14 at 1:31 a.m.  Jackie D. Payne, age 24 of Sterling, IL, was arrested for Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle following a traffic stop in Rock Falls, IL, for equipment violations.  Her Illinois Driver’s License was posted as bond, and she was issued a written warning for the equipment violations.

02-06-14 at 11:20 p.m.  Deputies were assisting Rock Falls Police on a disturbance call at Days Inn, when a vehicle involved in the altercation left the scene.  An ensuing stop of the vehicle resulted in the arrest of Brandy M. Buyers, age 37 of Rock Falls, IL, for two counts of DUI.  She was processed at the Rock Falls Police Department and released on bond.  Rock Falls Police and Slim-n-Hank’’s Towing assisted on scene.

02-06-14 at 6:49 p.m.  Derek A. Ledesma, age 21 of Sterling, IL, as stopped on Emerson Road west of Sterling for speeding.  He was subsequently arrested for Speeding 61/45 MPH, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Operating Motor Vehicle with Expired Registration.  Ledesma posted his Illinois Driver’s License as bond and was issued a written warning for Obstructed Registration (snow) as well as Failure to Notify the Secretary of State of an address change.

02-05-14 at 10:10 p.m.  Analiese E. Gross, age 24 of Rock Falls, IL, was stopped by Deputies in Sterling, IL, for No Front Registration Plate.  She was arrested for Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and posted her Illinois Driver’s License as bond.  She was issued a written warning for No Front Registration Plate as well as Failure to Notify the Secretary of State of an address change.
