February 15 Symphony Features Beethoven and Kevin Lemus

ViolinistsBecause 2020 is the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s birth, the 66th season of Clinton Symphony Orchestra will present two of his works.  Both pieces premiered in the same concert in December 1813.  Opus 91, Wellington’s Victory,” commemorates the Duke of Wellington’s victory over Joseph Bonaparte, at the Battle of Vitoria in Spain, in June 1813.  Beethoven ranked “Symphony No. 7,” Opus 92, one of his best works.  An enthusiastic author wrote of its debut, “the final movement zips along at an irrepressible pace that threatens to sweep the entire orchestra off its feet and around he theater, caught up in the sheer joy of performing one of the most perfect symphonies ever written.”

Experience this dynamic music on Saturday, February 15, beginning at 7:30 p.m., at Morrison High School, 643 Genesee Avenue, Morrison, IL.

Adult tickets are $20; all students are admitted free.  Plus, a student may sponsor an adult to receive admission for half price.

Sterling High School Senior Kevin Lumus won the Clinton Symphony Orchestra’s annual Young Artist Audition.  He will perform Francis Poulenc’s “Sonata for Flute” with the orchestra.  Runner up was trombonist Jenna Spencer, as Senior at Clinton High School.
