Event Cancellations to Avoid COVID-19

CancelledIllinois area events have been cancelled or postponed, to avoid the chance of exposure to, and spread of, coronavirus.  Check this feature each day for new information and updates.

Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society has cancelled its May program on President and General U. S. Grant.  Both museums are closed until permission is given to reopen.  Contact the Curator at 815-622-6215.

Whiteside County Farm Bureau Foundation has cancelled all 2020 Summer Camps.  Advance registration fees will be refunded.

Due to continued precautions with the spread of COVID-19 and to insure the health and safety of the consumer and our staff, the annual spring Fulton Plant Sale is cancelled.

“We are posting video worship services online (Youtube and Facebook) and emailing bulletins to follow along.  Our members are encouraged to contact the church Office, at 815-772-3386, to get on the mailing list, to receive the most recent updates and online services.”

Free Community Meals at First Presbyterian Church have been cancelled until further notice.

Memorial Day Services on Monday, May 25, 2020, will not include a parade.  At noon, The American Legion will conduct a brief recognition and rifle salute at Veterans Memorial Park, Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL.  Attendees should maintain social distancing.

Morrison Community Vacation Bible School scheduled, for Monday, June 15, through Friday, June 19, 2020, has been cancelled this year.

Kim Barragan postponed her Saturday, April 18, Vendor and Crafter sales event at Whiteside County Fairground, 201 W. Winfield Street, Morrison, IL, to benefit St. Jude Children’s Memorial Hospital.  The new date is Saturday, August 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Spaces are available inside and outside, some with electricity.  Contact Barragan at 815-238-6170.

The Clinton Symphony Orchestra concert scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2020, has been cancelled.  Ticket holders are encouraged to donate the cost of the ticket back to the Symphony, or to use them to bring a guest to a concert in the 2020-21 season.

The April meeting of The American Legion Post 328 is postponed to Monday, April 27, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., at 306 E. Main Street, in Morrison, IL.

Morrison Kiwanis has cancelled the annual Easter Egg Hunt in Kiwanis Park.

Resthave Care & Rehabilitation has restricted all visitors, except immediate family members of residents who are receiving end-of-life care.  These visitors will be screened and must wear protective equipment while inside the building.

Effective Thursday, March 19, customer access to the Farmers National Bank lobby will be by “appointment only,” for loan or deposit needs or to access safe deposit boxes.  Lobby doors will be locked.  Lenders and Customer Service representatives will be communicating with lobby staff throughout the day, to provide access to customers with appointments.  To help us facilitate your entry, please call your contact at 815-772-3700 when you arrive.

The U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service suspended operations at the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge Savanna District Visitor Center (Refuge), effective Tuesday, March 17.  Boat Landings and trails continue to be open.  We will notify the public when we reopen the center.

The Whiteside County Jail has suspended inmate visitations and Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings until further notice.

Timber Lake Playhouse has postponed the “Oh, Boys!” concert on Friday, March 20.   If you have tickets purchased for the March 20 concert, tickets and seat assignments will automatically transfer to the new date.Those who cannot make the rescheduled date have two options.  The ticket price can be used for any other TLP production, or the ticket price can be refunded.  Additionally, TLP will reschedule local auditions planned for March 29 to April 26.  Over the next few weeks, the TLP office will be closed as staff work from home.  Phone calls and emails will continue to be answered.  Visit www.timberlakeplayhouse.org or call the Box Office at 815-244-2035 and leave a message.

City of Morrison will not allow new reservations for use of the Community Room in April.

The AARP income tax preparation programs on Wednesday, March 18 and 25, have been cancelled.

“Messiah” choir practices have been cancelled.

Happy Joe’s Pizza dine-in service will close on Tuesday, March 17, by State order, until further notice.  Carry-out service and delivery are available from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday-Saturday.  Sunday carry-out is from noon to 9:00 p.m.; delivery is from 4:00 to 9:00.  Lunch orders will be delivered M-F from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  The Brick Block Pub will not allow dine-in service or drinking, but food may be ordered for or carry-out or delivery (from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.)

Da’ Bar, Fat Boy’s, and Hero’s Bar & Grill will close on Tuesday, March 17, by State order, until further notice.

First Presbyterian and Morrison United Methodist Churches have cancelled Sunday School in March and until further notice.

Odell Public Library, 307 S. Madison Street, will close on Tuesday, March 17.  Friends of Odell Public Library cancelled the Africa travelogue set for Tuesday, March 3; it will be rescheduled.

United Way of Whiteside County Annual Recognition Banquet, on Wednesday, March 18, in Sterling, IL, is postponed.  The tentative makeup date is Wednesday, June 17, at 11:30 a.m., at Bethel Reformed Church, Sterling.   United Way Worldwide headquarters in Alexandria, VA, has cancelled all in-person conferences and courses they host through the end of April.

The Loft on Main, 112 E. Main Street, Morrison, will close beginning Thursday, March 19.

“Under the Big Top,” the 15th Annual St. Mary’s Community Father Daughter Dance, planned for Saturday, March 21, is cancelled.

The Knights of Columbus second Lenten Fish Fry, planned for Friday, March 27, is cancelled. 

Illinois High School Association (IHSA) has cancelled its remaining winter State Series postseason tournaments, which include Boys Basketball, Scholastic Bowl, Drama and Group Interpretation, Music, Debate, and Journalism.

Permits for all scheduled tours of the Illinois State Capitol Building and all events scheduled to take place at the Capitol Building, in Springfield, have been cancelled.  In addition, lobbyists who have lobby days or other events at the Capitol Building are being encouraged to alert them to these cancellations.
