Ernest “Red” Spencer, Jr., 74, of Lyndon, IL, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.
Red was born October 5, 1940, in Dixon, IL, to Ernest E. and Alveretta M. (Keep) Spencer. He was educated in the Rockford, IL, grade schools and attended Milledgeville High School in Milledgeville, IL. He married Olive Jeanette Jones on December 10, 1960, in Morrison, IL. She died on February 22, 2012. Red worked for Engineered Roofing in Sterling. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Prophet Hills Country Club in Prophetstown, IL. He also enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Red was an avid Green Bay Packers and St. Louis Cardinals Fan. He loved to spend time in Wisconsin at his cabin.
Survivors include one daughter, Shari Kaufman of Morrison; three sons, Barry (Jodi) Spencer of Sterling, Gary Spencer of Lyndon, and Shawn (April) Spencer of Dixon; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Sandy Reed of Loves Park, IL, and a daughter-in-law, Dallas Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanette; one son, Brandy Spencer.
A private family gravside service will occur.
