football50ydIt was a very exciting and hard fought football game in Fulton, Il, on Saturday, August 31, 2019.

The Morrison Seventh and Eighth combined Football Team stampeded into town and came out with a very impressive 8-6 victory.

On the opening drive of the contest, Morrison drove 63 yards down the field,  It was capped by a six yard touchdown run by Cooper Bush.  Karder White ran over the goal for the all-important two point conversion, and Morrison was up 8-0 early on.

Neither squad could mount a scoring drive for the remainder of the event, until Fulton’s quarterback, with merely 51 seconds left in the ballgame, squirted loose on a broken play and crossed the goal line from 13 yards away.  With the score now 8-6, the ever-important extra point try would be crucial to the game’s outcome.  Cameron McDonnell, Morrison’s big defensive lineman, burst through the Fulton offense, sacking the Steamer quarterback, and ended the game on a high note for the Morrison team.

Morrison is now 3-0 on the season.

Important numbers for the game include Morrison’s offensive rushing yards.  DaeShaun McQueen had 49 yards on six carries.  Carson Strating netted 24 yards with three tries.  Chase Newman got 11 yards on two attempts.  Newman was one-for-two in his passing attempts.  His completion was to Anthony Cook for 31 big yards.

Defensively, Morrison’s Evan McDonnell and Carson Strating each brought down six Fulton runners.  The locals have now allowed just two touchdowns in three ball games so far this season.

Defense, a staple on any good football team, will win many contests!
