Nine Seahorses traveled to the the UIC Natatorium in Chicago, IL, to swim in the JETS Summer Classic, on Friday, June 10, through Sunday, June 12, 2016. This meet was a great experience for the Seahorses, as it was held in a 50 meter (Olympic size) pool. The Seahorses adjusted just fine to the longer pool and had a fantastic meet. Congratulations to the Seahorses on a fantastic meet! The Seahorse results and places follow.
Laney Edgeton swam a Regional Qualifying time in the 50 meter backstroke; Skylar Drolema swam a State Qualifying time in the 50 meter breaststroke. The 11 – 12 Girls 200 medley relay team of Laney Edgeton, Kate Henson, Schyon Drolema, and BayLeigh Brewer swam a 2:43.77. They beat their record of 2:51.73 that they set last year. Henson, Edgeton, Lexi Allen, and Schyon Drolema swam a 2:23.85 in the 200 meter freestyle relay, to break their record of 2:27.69 that they also set last year.
Skylar Drolema broke an amazing six individual team records at this meet! He broke four of Mitchell Story’s records that were set in 2003, and he broke two of Nicholas Alvarado’s records that were set in 1992. Skylar swam a 2:46.33 in the 200 meter IM, which broke Story’s record by seven seconds. Skylar swam the 400 meter free in a 5:32.06, which broke Story’s record by 20 seconds. He swam a 31.33 in the 50 meter freestyle and broke Story’s record of 31.54. He swam a 1:09.67 in the 100 meter freestyle, to break Story’s record of 1:11.95. Skylar swam a 39.72 in the 50 meter breaststroke and broke Alvarado’s record of 40.54. He also swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:26.88, which broke Alvarado’s record of 1:29.50.
