Clinton Community College, located at 944 Lincoln Boulevard, Clinton, IA, offers a High School Equivalency Testing (HiSET) program, for people in Iowa and Illinois who want to earn a High School Diploma.
Ongoing classes begin every three weeks.
The next Orientation meeting is Tuesday, March 8, 2016. A $15 Orientation fee must be paid prior to coming to this session. Monday, March 14, is the start of the next round of classes.
Adult Basic Education classes are offered in the morning or evening.
When people enter the HiSET program, they work with Career Navigator Tami Kuehl-Sachsenmaier. She aids students with job search needs and helps them transition to college. Students study five subjects:
- Math
- Language Arts-Reading
- Language Arts-Writing
- Science
- Social Studies.
College and Career Readiness skills are part of the program. As students progress, they are more prepared to enter the workplace or move to advanced education.
English as a Second Language and English Language Learners evening classes are held two nights per week. For the person who needs to learn English, reading, listening, and writing, this is the place to be. In addition, students learn other life skills that are valuable for parents and workers.
According to Clinton Community College’s Adult Basic Education Lead Teacher Charlene Nicoletto, “When people enter our program, they enter a network of services designed to help them succeed. Whether the reason is because someone wants to increase [job chances], or because someone wants to work toward a personal goal, we are here to help ensure their success. It’s never too late to start.”
