Morrison High School Senior Bella Duncan has signed to play Division 1 Softball, at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, her family gathered in the gym for a photograph: left-to-right are, front row, father, Dave; Bella; mother Taylor Duncan. In back are grandfather Randy Nelson; three sisters; grandmother Dana Nelson.
Coaches and teammates joined Bella Duncan to celebrate her future Softball endeavors. Front row, far left, is Volunteer Softball Coach Emma Sitzmore. At far right is Coach Chelsie Eads.
The Editor interviewed Duncan on Thursday, November 14. As a Middle School student, she played Nationwide Travel Softball and began pitching in sixth grade. In High School her positions were Pitcher and Third Base. “I probably will play the infield at Michigan,” she stated.
Bella will enter a five-year program with a major in Occupational Therapy. She “could work in schools or in a hospital, or I can specialize on a certain area of the body.”
Because she had a wrist injury, she was attended by a Physical Therapist. The outcome was not fully satisfactory: “I now have limited range of motion. I want to go into this field…to make it better. I [will] always want my patients to feel better.”
An occupational therapist (OT) helps teach or re-teach people the skills they need to perform everyday activities. Those who benefit from occupational therapy often have developmental delays or are recovering from a physical or cognitive injury.
An OT’s job may include overseeing exercises to manage pain; adapting an environment to accommodate a person’s needs; teaching a patient to use special equipment, such as a wheelchair or eating aid.
