Duane Zuidema, 81, of Fulton, IL, died Friday, April 26, 2019, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA.
Duane was born October 30, 1937, in Morrison, IL, to Alvin H. and Dorothy A. (Pessman) Zuidema. He was educated in the Morrison grade schools and was a 1956 graduate of Morrison High School. He served in the U. S. Army Reserves. On June 3, 1960, he married Sharon Fiet in Fulton. Duane was first employed by his father at Al’s Electric in Morrison. He then joined the local #145 IBEW, Rock Island, IL. He worked for Electric Service of Clinton, IA, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Fulton Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed antique cars, showing his car and a restored 1956 Ford F 100 truck at many shows. He also enjoyed buying and restoring mini bikes and collecting antique toy trucks. Duane enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and boating.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Sue (Jim) Snyder of North Aurora, IL, and Traci (Mark) Stratton of Fulton; one son, Dan Zuidema of Fulton; six grandchildren, Jenna (Tom) Urbik, Aaron (Tiffany) Snyder, A. J. (Katie) Stratton, Hilary (Cody) Graham, Nick (fiancée Dezirea Wade) Stratton, and Jason Zuidema; six great grandchildren; one brother, Arlyn (Patricia D.) Zuidema of Morrison.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service is at 10:30 a.m.,. Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Fulton Presbyterian Church in Fulton, IL, with Rev. Catherine Martin officiating.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL.
Memorials to Fulton Presbyterian Church and L’Arche Clinton have been established.
