Dr. Julian M. Burn, Jr. (1933 – 2013)

julian burnDr. Julian M. Burn, Jr., 79, of Clinton, IA, died Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at his home.

Julian was born November 9, 1933, in Charleston, SC, to Julian M. and Vera E. (Anderson) Burn. He was educated in the Morrison grade schools and was a 1952 graduate of Morrison High School, Morrison, IL. He attended St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA, and graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL, with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. He then graduated from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL, with a Masters in Psychology. He received his Ph.D in Clinical Psychology from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, serving during the Korean War. On December 21, 1962, he married Wanda L. Dodd in Champaign. She died July 18, 1983. He then married Donna M. Sobers-Murdock on April 25, 1987, in Clinton, IA. She died March 14, 2005. Julian was employed by the Veteran Administration Hospitals in Danville, IL, and Charleston, SC. He helped establish the Clinton Mental Health Center, Clinton, in 1970. He was a member of the American Psychological Association and the Marriage and Family Therapy Association. He also was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #363 in Clinton, and the Clinton AmVets.

Survivors include one daughter, Kimberly (T. J.) Head of Durant, IA; two sons, Ken (Karla) Burn of Morrison, and Paul (Sue) Burn of Clinton; six grandchildren, Trevan, Morgan, Kollin and Dylan Burn; Shannon and Keagen Head; one sister, Marilyn Smith of Fulton, IL; one brother, David (Heidi) Burn of Camanche, IA.

He was preceded in death by his first and second wives, Wanda and Donna; one granddaughter, Lindsay Burn; one brother, Berndt Burn.

SPECIAL NOTE:  Visitation will be held at the Fulton Chapel, and the Funeral Ceremony will be held at the Morrison Chapel.

VISITATION:  2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, September 29, 2013, at the Fulton Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

FUNERAL SERVICE:  11:00 a.m., Monday, September 30, 2013, at the Morrison Chapel, Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

OFFICIATING:  Mr. Rich Criss, Ministry Coordinator, Emmanuel Reformed Church, Morrison, IL

INTERMENT:  Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL

A memorial to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation has been established.
