Douglas O. Chamberlain, 88, of 9551 Walnut Road, Lyndon, IL, died Saturday, December 24, 2016, at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center in Prophetstown, IL.
Douglas was born June 28, 1928, to Charles and Mildred (Weburg) Chamberlain, in Sterling, IL. He attended Lyndon schools. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart. He married Avis M. Landheer on September 6, 1952, in Sterling. Douglas worked the family farm, which has been in the family for 163 years. He farmed there for 62 years, raising Angus cattle, and retired in 2013. He also trucked for his good friend, Carl Detra, of Detra Trucking in Lyndon. He was a lifetime member of the American Angus Association and the Whiteside County Livestock Feeders Association. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling with his wife.
Survivors include his wife, Avis; two daughters, Diane of Peru, IL, and Marcia of Boerne, TX; one son, Alan, of Lyndon; one sister, Mrs. Patricia Francis of Morrison, IL; one brother, David (Susie) Chamberlain of The Villages, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:30 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2016, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home, Prophetstown, IL
OFFICIATING: Rev. Katrina “Katie” Gallagher, Pastor of First Lutheran Church in Prophetstown, IL
VISITATION: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2016, until the time of the service, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home, Prophetstown, IL
PRIVATE INTERMENT: Oak Knoll Cemetery, Sterling, IL
