Dorothy M. Johnson, 81, of Pleasant View Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Morrison, IL, died December 27, 2020, at Pleasant View.
Dorothy was born December 16, 1939, in Fulton, IL, to Peter and Florence (Geerts) VanderVinne. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School. On February 6, 1959 ,she married David Vanderlaan in Fulton. She later married Neil B. Johnson on December 31, 1997, in Mt. Carroll, IL. Neil died on October 27, 2012. Dorothy was first employed by Vend-O-Mack in Morrison, and later by Climco Coils in Morrison. She was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church. Dorothy liked outdoor activities including yard work, flower gardening, and bird watching. She enjoyed bowling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include daughter, Dawn (Scott) Meurs of Morrison; sons, Dale (Michelle) Vanderlaan of Oak Park, IL, Doug (Renee) Vanderlaan of Morrison, and Darwin (Lisa) Vanderlaan of Morrison; stepdaughter, Audra Johnson of Madison, WI; stepson, Wade (Cindy) Johnson of Rockford, IL; eight grandchildren, Stacy (Elliot) Worth, Cassandra (Maxwell Leib) Meurs, Grant and Beau Vanderlaan, Hanah (Bobby) Mathius, Benjamin Vanderlaan, Samantha (Nick) Volckmann, and Cody Vanderlaan; two step-grandchildren, Taylor and Julie Johnson; sister, Ruth Balk of Pella, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil; granddaughter, Amanda Conerly; sisters, Pauline Pruis, Frances Houzenga, and Louise Bielema; brother, Maurice VanderVinne.
There will be a private family Visitation and Funeral service at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, IL, with Ken Renkes officiating.
Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
A memorial to the American Cancer Society has been established.
The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
