Donnybrook Welcomes You to Ring Memories Bell

MemoriesBellEven though temperatures will hover near freezing, know that cozy fires are lit at Donnybrook Bakery Café, 203 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL, on Friday, December 18, and Saturday, December 19, 2015.  Warm up in the Irish pub both days from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Owner Bob Vaughn stated, “Try the hearty homemade chili and cornbread.  Both are gluten-free if you need to avoid gluten, but everyone loves this tasty combination.”

“Because of its continued popularity, we will have our White Christmas hot (white) chocolate, with a dash of creme de menthe.  It’s the only green hot chocolate you’ll ever find!”

He added, “Irish coffee goes so well on chilly winter days, too.”

Enjoy bakery-and-a-beverage for breakfast or brunch.  Sandwich or chili makes a swell supper or lunch.

The expanded menu–now with six specialty sandwiches and chili–runs from 11:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m.  Three salad choices are cranberry fluff, cole slaw, or red potato.

  • Mad Irish Woman (turkey, cole slaw, and Irish Red Leicester cheese panini-style/grilled sandwich) on sourdough bread
  • Grilled Cheese (three cheeses on white bread)
  • Dubliner (ham and cheese panini-style/grilled sandwich) on mapley Apple Fritter toasted bread
  • Ham Salad on a bed of fresh lettuce on Wheat bread
  • Donnybrook (corned beef panini-style/grilled sandwich)
  • Chicken Salad sandwich on Cranberry-Oat bread
  • homemade, gluten-free Chili and Corn Bread both days.

Vaughn added, “A new dessert this weekend is red velvet cupcakes.  Enjoy a cinnamon roll or shiny, white iced cookies with holiday sprinkles.  Those would be a great hostess gift, if you have a party to attend.”

“We have a ship’s bell [in the short passageway] between the main cafe/bar and the coffee bar counter.  Ring it as you pass by, so that a loved one might hear.  We are now calling it the Memories Bell.  We thought of that, because [the late] Jen Banks was a friend of Donnybrook [and our daughter, Jenny], and we wished to remember her.  We encourage all who have lost a a loved one to give it a gentle tug.”

Shoppers are urged to “strip the Christmas trees” of ornaments.  Attractive decor items are meant for people to enjoy in their homes.
