Donald T. Skibbe of Morrison, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024, surrounded by family.
Don was born on July 29, 1933, in Elgin, IL, to Herman and Evelyn Skibbe (later Wilkins.) Don lived a life that embodied the American dream, a life centered on family, community, and hard work. He farmed near Coleta, IL, for over 60 years and worked for more than 30 years as a Crane Operator at Northwestern Steel and Wire—commonly known as “the mill” in this community. He forged lasting friendships and earned a reputation for dependability and a strong work ethic. Don was married to Barbara for nearly 70 years before her passing in 2021.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and his son, Rodney.
Don is survived by his sisters, Nancy Melton and Debra Barger; children, Richard Skibbe, Pamela Vittitow, and Kimberly Skibbe-Hay; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling, IL.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., prior to services at the funeral home, with Pastor Jeff Coester, officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, IL.
Afterward, family and friends are invited to gather at the Candlelight Inn in Rock Falls, IL, for a time of remembrance and refreshments.
A memorial has been established to the Milledgeville Fire Department and Alzheimer’s Association.
