Donald Lee Domdey, 83, of Morrison, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation, in Morrison.
Don was born on October 23, 1939, in Morrison to Ralph and Sarah (Rogers) Domdey. He was a 1957 Morrison High School graduate. On December 14, 1956, he was united in marriage to Barbara J. Temple at Morrison United Methodist Church, where he was a member for over 60 years. He was a current member of Ebenezer Reformed Church. Don worked at General Electric Appliance Control Department, in the prototype shop, as a model maker from 1961 until his retirement in 2000. He was very creative and enjoyed building things, in general. Some of his handiwork included boats, recumbent bikes, and lap steel guitars. He also honed his woodworking skills by building bookshelves for Darel, a cradle for Ashley, and rocking chairs for Dani and Olivia. He enjoyed music, fishing, camping, and golfing. For over 20 years he wintered in Florida. Don made many new friends while in Florida, including a neighbor that also enjoyed building things. The two of them were known as the “saw-dust twins.” He was very witty and was as a “jack of all trades, master of puns” His family and friends will miss his great sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Barb; daughter, Sara (Mike Smith) Domdey of Oak Park, IL; son, Darel Domdey of West Burlington, IA; three grandchildren, Ashley Domdey, Danelle Domdey, and OIivia Smith; four great-grandchildren, Noah, Isayah, Aubrie, and Emery.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; son, Craig Domdey; sisters, Audrey Temple, Meredith Renkes, and Betty Hall; brother, Kenneth Domdey.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2023, at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, IL, officiated by Rev. J. T. Bean.
There will be a Visitation from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the Visitation.
Interment will be at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, Septtember 25, 2023, at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
Memorials have been established to Resthave Care & Rehabilitation and Ebenezer Reformed Church, both in Morrison, IL.
