Donald D. Barnes, 87, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday October 2, 2019, at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation in Morrison.
Donald was born July 10, 1932, in Oradell, NJ, to Howard and Amy (Hering) Barnes. He attended Westwood Grade School in New Jersey, and graduated from Westwood High School in 1950. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. He then received a Master’s of Divinity at Trinity Seminary in Deerfield, IL, and also a Master’s in Counseling from McCormick Seminary in Chicago, IL. On August 21, 1954, he was united in marriage to Joanne Quitno at Trinity Lutheran Church in DeKalb, IL. Donald served in eight different churches in various states and had over 50 years of ministry, the last of which was at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison. He was a lifelong sports fan, particularly rooting for his beloved New York Yankees.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne; three sons, Paul (Barbara) Barnes of Phoenix, AZ, Timothy Barnes of Sarasota, FL, and Joel (Cary) Barnes of Wheaton, IL; eight grandchildren, Erica (Hanway) Chang, Shelby (Rob) Sims, Lauren and Michael Barnes, Esteban and Tatiana Harker Barnes, Jessi and Reagan Barnes; three great-grandchildren, Josiah Kautzman and Hannah and Elizabeth Chang.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 6, 2019, at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, IL, followed by a time of fellowship and light refreshments. Co-officiating the service will be Rev. Marv Jacobs and Ken Renkes.
Interment will be at a later date in DeKalb, IL.
A memorial has been established by the family.
