District Governor Gary Meyers and Marcia Meyers visited the Morrison Lions Club at their business meeting on Tuesday, January 19, 2016.  He discussed his experience at the last International Convention and told of his project for the year–Special Olympics.  He has taken the “polar plunge” to raise money and to create awareness of special needs children.  He has been a Lion for 16 years.  Meyers has participated in mission trips to Honduras and stressed the importance of leadership training at the local, district, state, and international level.  First Lady Marcia Meyers displayed their “ice bucket,” and members donated money for the Special Olympics cause.  She also discussed the District Convention to be held in Rockford, IL, on Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2.

Annual donations were made to Lions Club International Foundation, Lions of Illinois Foundation, Center for Sight and Hearing, and the Boy Scouts.

LionsLegionBob Smith was in charge of the January program meeting.  He introduced American Legion members Don Mulnix and Terry Jones.   They presented information on the Veterans Memorial located at Grove Hill Cemetery.  The present memorial was built in 2005, and stones put in place at that time are mostly filled.  There are many names on the list waiting to be placed on new stones.  The Legion is proposing to purchase four additional 48 x 8 x 42 inch stones and is seeking assistance in raising approximately $15,000 for the cost.

Club members voiced their support through donation and assistance in raising funds for a worthy community need.
