Dennis J. McMahon, of Wheaton, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, after a brief illness.
Dennis was born August 2, 1947. He graduated from Morrison High School and Western Illinois University. His travels took him to California, where he lived, worked, and attended Orange County Community College and Fullerton State University. Dennis also lived and ministered in Mexico with Tony and Lois Freeman in a Biblical mission. After returning to Illinois, Dennis was a political organizer, a Christian book seller, an event coordinator for Intervarsity, a high school substitute teacher, and a 20-year clerk for Jewel Grocery Store. Dennis became a dedicated Christian in Peoria, IL, where he grew in the Lord and made many lifelong friends.
Dennis “Denny” was an avid learner and student of Christian studies, philosophy, theology, the universe, intelligent design, and free will. He was known and respected for his brilliant way with group discussions, always welcoming diverse opinions. Denny enjoyed all kinds of music, but especially Christian folk music.
His gentle and kind ways touched and encouraged many people throughout his life. While he was recovering at home, he welcomed neighbors, family, and friends to his room for a lively chat.
He will be greatly missed by many, especially his wife of 26 years, Helen.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife Helen A. McAndrews; dear brother, Larry McMahon and his wife Jane of Loves Park, IL; nephews Joe McMahon, Scott Jonsson, and Dave Jonsson; nieces Kim Hughart (Jim), and Kelly McMahon.
Dennis is survived by sisters-in-law Katherine McGinn (Bill), Rose McLaughlin, and Cathy McAndrews (late brother-in-law Leo); nieces and nephews.
A funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2020, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
