The newly-created City of Morrison Rec Program initiated a four-week series of “Days in the Park” on Thursday, July 9, 2015, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., with activities for children ages three to seven at Water Works Park. Youngsters were split into two age groups; those age five and under must be accompanied by a participating parent. There is no charge for the series.
Register with Cassidy VanZuiden at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Morrison-IL-Parks-and-Recreation/1674482552781949?sk=timeline to guarantee your child’s participation in the next three sessions. Include the following information:

- number of children participating
- children’s ages.
Each Thursday has a theme; the first was Arts and Crafts Day! Water Works Park was the sheltered setting for making a foam light switch cover; decorating a paper plate beach ball; painting/embellishing a favorite rock. Shown left-to-right are City of Morrison, IL, employees with craft supplies. Kate Miller holds rocks gathered from the home of Jim DuBois; Craft Director Cassidy VanZuiden holds neon paint containers; Jessica Wieneke demonstrates a finished rock buddy, complete with feathers and googly eyes. There were also paint stampers to decorate the beach balls.
VanZuiden attended the Early Childhood program at WACC in Sterling, IL, before she graduated. The Youth Rec Program “fits right in with what I did in high school,” she stated. She created all the crafts.
“About 15” children attended the first Day in the Park. They received a freezer pop treat and had time to play on the park equipment.
The next Thursday morning sessions are listed below. The times are 9:00 to 10:30 a.m.
