Darrell Gene Workman, 83, of Morrison, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL.
Darrell was born on September 23, 1940, in Morrison, the son of Harold and Anna (Grady) Workman. He was educated in the Morrison grade schools and graduated from Morrison High School in 1958. On August 12, 1960, he married Janice Elaine Medenblik at Spring Valley Reformed Church in Fulton, IL. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage. Throughout his life, Darrell was a dedicated and hardworking individual. He spent 33 years driving for Northwestern Steel & Wire in Sterling, IL. After his retirement, he drove for Dave Cook for a number of years, he then drove for Jakobs Bros. Farms, until two days before his pancreatic cancer diagnosis. He was a member of Emmanuel Church in Morrison since 1961 and also was a member of the Central States Teamsters Union for 33 years. Darrell found immense joy in spending time with his family, especially attending his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s activities. He and Janice shared a love for truck shows, and for 20 years, they wintered in The Villages, FL.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife Janice; daughter, Julie (Dave Kirk) Jordan of Morrison; son, Arlyn (Linda) Workman of Morrison; six grandchildren, Nathan (Erica) Stralow, Justin (Angela) Stralow, Amanda (Grant) Korthaus, Rachel (Jason) Decker, Todd (Kenzie) Workman, and Jacki Shetler; 18 great-grandchildren, Cora, Seth, Noah, and Luke Stralow, Calan and Josiah Stralow, Logan and Leah Korthaus, Elivia, Riley, Lexie, and Mia Decker, Kortlyn, Kole, and Konnor Workman; Kaylee, Isaak, and Kody Shetler; sister, Sharon Oakes of TX; brother, William (Jane) Workman of Carbondale, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Anna Workman; uncle and aunt who raised him, Ike and Edna VenHuizen; sister, Delores Buwalda; brothers, Dale D. Workman and Robert Workman.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Emmanuel Church in Morrison, IL, officiated by Rev. Luke Schouten.
Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.
Memorials have been established to Emmanuel Church, Rock River Hospice and Home, or the Danny Did Foundation for Epilepsy.
