Darlene A. Kuehl, 84, of Morrison, IL, died Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at her home.
Darlene was born September 10, 1931, in Fenton, IL, to E. “Tom” and Thyra V. (Wilson) Simpson. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a 1949 graduate of Morrison High School. She married William H. “Bill” Kuehl on June 11, 1950, in Morrison. Darlene was first employed by the former Morrison Telephone Company. Later she worked for the Whiteside County Farm Bureau office and most recently at the Whiteside County Courthouse, retiring in 1996. She as a member of Morrison United Methodist Church and the church’s United Methodist Women, served as a trustee, and was on several various committees. She was active in Whiteside County Home Extension and was a member of the Pleasant View Nursing Home Auxiliary. Darlene enjoyed attending the school functions of grandchildren and the children of her friends. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and was considered a second “mom” by her nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; one daughter, Diane Kuehl of Redlands, CA; four sons, David (Elaine) Kuehl of Urbana, IL, Douglas (Kelly) Kuehl of Morrison, Darrell (Suzy) Kuehl of Morrison, and Dan (Katie) Kuehl of Morrison; six grandchildren, Jessica, Kendra, and Logan Kuehl, Kyle Dermody, Allison and Emily Kuehl; one step-grandchild, Brian (Missy) Douros; two step-great-grandchildren, Chase and Channing Douros; two sisters, Glenda (John) O’Hara of Kearny, AZ, and Viola (Ron) Garwick of Morrison; one brother, Larry (Karen) Simpson of Norwalk, CA; one sister-in-law, Barb Simpson of Bristol, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Dawn Marie Kuehl, in infancy; one brother, James Simpson.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 25, 2016, at Morrison United Methodist Church
OFFICIATING: Rev. Ryan Sutton, Pastor, Morrison United Methodist Church
VISITATION: 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 24, 2016, at the Morrison Chapel – Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
INTERMENT: Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL
