Dalbert E. Temple (1927 – 2021)

dalbert templeDalbert E. Temple, 94, of Fulton, IL, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the Alverno Care Facility in Clinton, IA.

Dalbert was born June 3, 1927, in Fulton, to David and Jennie (Huizenga) Temple.  He was educated in the Fulton Community Christian School and was a 1945 Graduate of Fulton High School.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Quartermaster Corp during World War II.  He married Joyce I. Huizenga on August 31, 1948, in Fulton.  She died March 2, 1998.  He later married Jean E. (Engelkens) Cain on April 8, 2006, in Fulton.  Dalb was employed as a Supervisor Traveling Mechanic and Pipefitter by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 44+ years, wearing his white hat proudly, until retiring in 1989.  Dalb was a charter member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton and served as Elder and Catechism Teacher.  He also served as a member of the Finance and Building committees for past church building projects and the church’s “Young at Hearts” Bible Study Group.  Dalb considered his membership and service at the church as a “truly rewarding experience.”  Dalb served as a volunteer at the Rehoboth Christian Indian Mission School in Rehoboth, NM, and served several terms on the Unity Christian School Board in Fulton.  He was a member of the NARVE (National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, INC.)  He enjoyed traveling and camping with his family;  he loved baseball and was an avid Cubs fan.  Dalb cherished his children and step-children and spending time with them and their families.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; daughters, Sharon (Dr. Gordon) Renkes of Columbus, OH, Sandra (Gary) Poskin of Clinton, Sheila (Don) Dykstra of Fulton, and Susan Temple of Morrison, IL; step-daughter, Beth (Kevin) Short of Camanche, IA; step-son, Thomas (Eileen) Cain of Oregon, IL; step-daughter in law, Lori Cain of Cayuga, IN; 11 grandchildren, Nathan (Beth Marland) Renkes, Rachel (Bob) Concitis, Jennifer (Chad) Schmidt, Cindy (Josh) Krogmann, Carissa (Matt) Johnson, Lana (Dave) Poskin-Klod, Andrea (Scott) Eggers, Elizabeth (Eric) Berns, Samantha (John) Sterenberg, Rebecca (Cole) Kramer, and Matthew (Brittany) VanDrew; 19 great-grandchildren, Kristin Marland, Spencer, Sidney, and Paul Renkes, Bradley and Rebekah Concitis, Alexis, Kayla, and Jayden Krogmann, Breanna Tschantz and Emily Eggers, Gavin and Ella Berns, Jeremiah Sterenberg, Dominick, Paisley, and Kennedy Kramer, Waylon, Jacob, and Brayden VanDrew; two great-great-grandchildren, Jordyn Cady and Lucy Tschantz; eight step-grandchildren, Melissa Bowers, Brian Cain, Jonathan Cain, Candace (Jeremy) Marquis, Emily Cook, Lucas Short, Matt Short, Megan Oksana-Cain; eight step-great-grandchildren, Brayden and Brooklyn Bowers, Kylie Witman, Gony, Sarah, and Aaliyah Tim, Harper Bagg, and Alexis Cook.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Joyce; brother, Ronald Temple; step-son, Phillip Cain; step-grandson in law, Scott Bowers.

His Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, with Rev. Kevin VerHoeven, officiating.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2021, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.

Interment will be at the Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.

A memorial has been established to Rehoboth Christian Indian Mission School and Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Memorial Garden.
