To support the C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors) organization, Culver’s Frozen Custard & Butterburgers held an in-store fundraiser on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 1907 Harley Davidson Drive, in Rock Falls, IL. Throughout the day, 10% of all sales were allocated to benefit those affected by the loss of an officer. General Manager Ashlee Alber remarked that the store “rounded up” the amount of their donation to $1000. This is their second fundraiser during National Police Week, held each year May 11-17.
On Saturday, May 13, Super Wash owners Bob and Mary Black offered the use of their facility, at 707 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, for the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office to hold a C.O.P.S. fundraiser. That event collected $1250.
Jennifer Morales stated these donations support families of law enforcement personnel who died in the line of duty, as did her late husband, Marlon Morales. The money sends survivors to a gathering in Washington, D. C., each year, to honor the fallen and support those who knew and loved them. It includes a Candlelight Vigil and reading the names of recent deceased officers; a two-day Conference for those affected by the death; a Picnic Dinner with music and games; the National Police Officers’ Memorial Service at the U. S. Capitol and placing of a floral wreath.
Numerous “camps” are provided to allow family and co-workers to spend supportive time together: spouses, children, siblings, co-workers. Older children may attend Outward Bound sessions in Colorado.
The Culver’s check presentation took place at 1:00 p.m. Alber stated, “We’ll see you next year!” Left-to-right are Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office Dispatcher Stacia Massey; Sergeant Kris Schmidt; Morales; Deputy Sean Coutts; Alber; Deputy Allie Deyo; Dispatcher Cheryl Bush; Deputy Derek Hamstra.
