Morrison Cub Scout Pack 328 held the annual Pinewood Derby, on Saturday, January 14, 2023, in Fellowship Hall of Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL. Scout Master Eric Anderson stated the Pine Wood Derby likely began when Cub Scouting did, in 1930. At that time is was called “Cubbing.” Cub Scouts is for youngsters in grades Kindergarten through Grade 5

Six youngsters competed with cars they designed and constructed. After numerous heats and the medal presentations, parents raced their derby cars.

Cub Master Marshall Blevins presented Pack members with final incentives and recognitions they earned last year.

Committee Chair Hillary Blevins shared results of the Pack 328 “65 for 65” [Capital] Campaign. During November and December 2022, local businesses were encouraged to support the celebration of “65 Years of Local Scouting,” by donating $65. Ten responses generated $1075.

Donors included Fat Boy’s; Happy Joe’s, Morrison; Marshall and Hillary Blevins; Morrison Lions Foundation; Morrison True Value; Rock River Lumber and Grain; Sullivan’s Foods, Morrison.

Three special donors were acknowledged for contributions of $200 or above, at the Akela Level: Farmers National Bank; thecity1.com; William R. Shirk.

Each Cub Scout earns at least eight awards, patches, and pins each year as they progress through the ranks. There are activity fees to pay. Money is used for camping and community involvement events, ie., service projects and parades. The “65 for 65” fundraiser will help cover these costs, so all children can participate.
