Whiteside County Deputies responded to the intersection of U. S. Route 30 and Matznick Road in rural Sterling, IL, on the report of a three-vehicle crash with unknown injuries. Upon arrival, it was determined unit 1, driven by a 17-year-old male of Thomson, IL, was westbound in that area and rear-ended unit 2 (Ford sedan), which was stopped in the westbound lane waiting to turn, and sideswiped unit 3 (Chevrolet pickup), who was eastbound, afterwards. The driver of unit 2 was transported to CGHMedical Center by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. The unit 3 driver was cleared by EMS and released on scene. The unit 1 driver was issued Citations for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash and Unsafe Equipment.
Follow-up was conducted at CGH with the driver of unit 1, pursuant to the personal injury crash.
Whiteside County Deputies were assisted on scene by Illinois State Police, Sterling and Rock Falls Fire Departments, CGH EMS, JR’s Towing, and Slim-N’-Hanks Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
