On Monday, December 19, 2022, at 7:40 p.m. Whiteside County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on Prophet Road near the I-88 overpass, in rural Rock Falls, IL. The deceased was identified as Arthur J. Norton, age 74 of Tampico, IL. The preliminary investigation revealed that, for unknown reasons, the vehicle’s right side tires went onto the shoulder of the roadway; the driver over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle. It rolled over and off the roadway down a hill, during which time the driver was ejected from the vehicle. EMS personnel arrived and transported the Norton to CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful, and the Norton was pronounced dead at CGH. The Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Rock Falls Fire Department, CGH Ambulance, and Slim-N-Hank’s.
