One cannot say that the issue of allowing chicken ownership within the Morrison, IL, City limits didn’t receive adequate Council attention and discussion. Ordinance (23-02) passed by a vote of 6-to-1, exposing the much-varied personal anxieties of Council members related to the subject, after altering the definition of Agricultural Livestock; emphasizing the size of quail versus chicken; defining containment dimensions and property restrictions.

The final draft of the Ordinance awaits the signature of Mayor Scott Vandermyde.

Following the lengthy and often tense interaction of the Council members, the chicken issue was placed to rest as the only Action Item on the Monday, March 27, 2023, Agenda.

Discussion Items, related to the proposed water rate Ordinance (23-04) increases, allowed City Administrator Brian Melton to highlight Ordinance details and the timing of the proposed changes.  A final vote of Ordinance 23-04 is scheduled for the meeting on Monday, April 10.

The Council adjourned into an Executive Session without any reportable issues being discussed.
