Cornelius “Neal” Henry Geerts (1932 – 2022)

Cornelius “Neal” Henry Geerts, 89, of Morrison, IL, died Friday, September 16, 2022, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL.

Neal was born October 3, 1932, in Thomson, IL, to Henry C. and Jennie (Zeeryp) Geerts. He was educated in the rural Carroll County grade schools and was a graduate of Milledgeville High School. He served in the United States Army. Neal married Barbara J. Schipper on July 24, 1953, in Morrison. He farmed alongside his wife, Barb, in the Morrison, Chadwick, and Milledgeville area. He was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church where he served as deacon. He was a 4-H leader for the Malvern Plow Jockies. Neal enjoyed restoring old cars, especially his ’57 Bel Air, 2-door hardtop and playing cards and marbles with friends. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Barb.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughter, Darla (Ronald) Vandermyde of Morrison; sons, Randy (Elaine) Geerts of German Valley, IL, and Timothy (Dana) Geerts of Rockford, IL; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandaughters; sister, Jeannie (Vernon) Schaver of Garden Plain, IL; brothers, Cecil (Pearl) Geerts of Garden Plain, and Robert Geerts of Milledgeville, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons in infancy, Steven and Larry Geerts; great-grandson, Joseph Geerts; sister, Evelyn Nailor; brother, Jacob Geerts.

His Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, IL, with Rev. J. T. Bean, Pastor at Ebenezer Reformed Church officiating.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., on Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.

Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison, IL.

A memorial has been established.
