Due to the generosity of our community, a local family will be receiving a car this Holiday season. Thursday, December 14, 2017, will be a very exciting day, when the Salvation Army’s Cruisin’ with Care car giveaway will award a deserving family with a donated vehicle.
The event will take place at the Clinton, IA, Hy-Vee at 5:00 p.m.
Area businesses worked together to sponsor the car giveaway after hearing of a similar program from a Salvation Army Advisory Board member.
Salvation Army Lt. Justin Hartley commented, “Last summer, this idea was brought to our Advisory Board meeting, and the group wanted to help a deserving family. They reached out to the car dealer, Thiel Motors in DeWitt, and began collecting other donations such as gift certificates for gas and food. The outpouring of generosity is inspiring!”
Area businesses involved in the Cruisin’ with Care car giveaway include: Thiel Motors, Hy-Vee, BP Station, Lyons Filling Station, Porter’s, DM Services, First Gateway Credit Union, Visual Imaging and Information, and the Referral & Assistance Services. The Salvation Army of Clinton, IA, is gearing up for the final push of the 2017 Red Kettle Campaign. The familiar Red Kettles will only be out through Saturday, December 23, and the Salvation Army needs your help in raising the necessary funds needed to help those in need in our community.
“With just over $60,000 raised, we are only half way to our goal,” said Lt. Justin Hartley. The Salvation Army’s goal this year is $120,000. For those who don’t often carry cash but would like to make a donation to the Red Kettle Campaign there is a new way for you to do that. Red Kettle Season Pass Pins are available in denominations of $20 and $50. Stop by their office at 219 First Avenue if you would like to purchase a pin.
The funds raised through the Christmas campaign help support programs and services in Clinton throughout the year and account for 60% of The Salvation Army’s annual budget. Those services include a food pantry, Christmas assistance, nursing home visitation, youth music and character building programs, summer camps, and more.
The Salvation Army of Clinton is also seeking volunteer bell ringers to help fill the more than 1,000 hours through Christmas Eve. There are even many indoor locations for those volunteers who don’t like to be out in the cold. “Even ringing just an hour or two will make a huge difference” said Lt. Hartley.
Any groups or individuals interested in participating in Salvation Army bell-ringing should contact the Salvation Army to schedule your time, or you can sign up online at saclinton.org. For more information, contact Lt. Justin Hartley at The Salvation Army Clinton Citadel, 563-242-4502.
