Clayton L. Deter, 90, of Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, January 14, 2020, at Resthave Care & Rehabilitation in Morrison.
Clayton was born December 21, 1929, in Morrison, to Daniel S. and Violetta (Nice) Deter. He attended Gridley Elementary School and was a graduate of Morrison High School. Clayton married Dorrine J. Bos on June 7, 1950, in Sterling, IL. She died January 1, 2019. Clayton was a lifelong farmer and also worked for IDOT for 20 years. He was a member of Science Ridge Mennonite Church in Sterling, where he participated in various church organizations and activities. He enjoyed classic tractors and had his own antique tractor collection. Clayton loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their school activities.
Survivors include three sons, Rod (Tammy) Deter, Russ (Amy) Deter, and Rick (Glenda) Deter all of Morrison; 11 grandchildren, Julia Deter, Tricia Deter, Daniel (Sarah) Deter, Kendall (Emily) Deter, Robert (Diane) Deter, Adam Deter, Emily (Cesar Contreras) Lambdin, Hannah Lambdin, Marie (Bryce) Brewer, Brock Deter, and Aaron Deter; four great-grandchildren, Lily, Bryson, Jonathan, and Zeke Deter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorrine; son, Randy Deter; daughter-in-law, Sharon Deter; sisters, Savilla and Elcy Ann Deter; brothers, William and Melvin Deter.
His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2020, at Science Ridge Mennonite Church in Sterling, IL, with Pastor Craig Sipes, of Brethren in Christ Church in Morrison, and Pastor Dan Rusmisel officiating.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, January 19, 2020, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Science Ridge Mennonite Cemetery in Sterling, IL.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established by the family.
