The Monday, January 10, 2022, Morrison City Council meeting may have established a record for time-in-session, as the motion to adjourn was approved 22 minutes after the established start time.  In the absence of Mayor Scott Vandermyde, Alderman Mick Welding was elected Mayor pro tempore and accepted the gavel for the session.

Having no Public Comments or Departmental reports allowed the vote of the Consent Agenda to be offered.  The seven-part Consent Agenda featured approval of the new downtown garbage containers and approval of Ordinance #22-01.

The Ordinance states in part…”have taken into consideration the volume, speed, and character of traffic on the City’s pubic streets, roadways, and alleys and have determined that the allowance of golf carts and non-highway vehicles such as UTVs and side-by-sides within the City, in the areas provided, will not jeopardize the public safety.”  The Ordinance further defines equipment requirements and 11 additional rules and regulations, governing the operation of non-highway vehicles.  Permits to use the City roads requires an annual renewal fee of $100.  Local Law Enforcement will monitor the drivers’ behavior and the vehicles’ compliance to stated requirements.

Action Items approved the signing of the Surf Air Cooperation Agreement, to encourage and develop a City-wide Fiber Optic Network to provide Broadband Internet Access Service.  The City agreed to allow the broadband fiber and wireless facilities to be mounted on the Morrison water tower, but an exact timetable for the completion is uncertain.

Morrison, IL, residents and businesses should be excited to know that High-Speed Fiber Internet is on the horizon.
