The Morrison, IL, City Council convened on Monday, March 31, 2025, without Alderman Vernon Tervelt in attendance. Nathan Jacobs, Recreational Services Director, reported that summer programs sign-ups recorded Volleyball 47 and Soccer 120. He also noted the beginning of Thursday, April 3, Bingo Night, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Odell Public Library.
The following discussions transpired with the appropriate actions taken as noted.
- The Council proclaimed that Junior Achievement Day would be recognized on Thursday, April 3, 2025, and the first Thursday in April in years to follow.
- Main Street (from IL Route 78 to Base Street) will be closed from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 10, Thursday, July 10, and Thursday, August 7, for use of Pop-Up Markets.
- Approval was granted (7-0) to post, interview, and hire a new Code Enforcement Officer.
- Construction bid ($308,330.60) was awarded to Helm Civil of Freeport, IL, for the South Genesee Improvement Project. Construction will be completed prior to the opening of the Whiteside County Fair [Tuesday, August 12, 2025.]
- Sewer lining bids were opened and awarded, with the total cost of improvements being absorbed by a State of Illinois Grant.
- Ordinance 20-25 was approved to alter a setback variance on the property at 304 Jackson Street.
The 2026 budget will be available to the Council for discussion and acceptance on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
