On the rainy morning of Day One–Tuesday, October 15, 2013–City Administrator Barry Dykhuizen stood within his new office space at City Hall, 200 W. Main Street, Morrison, IL. Both the room and the man are poised for a fresh start in municipal governance. It was a moment full of anticipation for Dykhuizen and the citizens of Morrison.
“Sure it’s a big job; but I don’t know anyone who can do it better than I can.” John F. Kennedy
Later that evening, he would attend his first Morrison City Council meeting. Dykhuizen said he had no opening remarks to share at that time. And while, after mere hours on the job, he has no report to make, he does have direction. CA Dykhuizen plans to establish 12- and/or 24-month goals with the Council. “That’s vital, I think.” This will give him “direction and help me and the staff to execute the will of the Council.”
“Find a job you like and you add five days to every week.” H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
Currently the family is living in Mt. Carroll, IL, with Dykhuizen’s mother. Wife Tara, son Gabe, and two-year-old twins Wil-with-one-L and Anne will move to Morrison “by the end of the month.” They plan “to close on a house next week.”
At that point, CA Barry Dykhuizen will truly have moved home.
“Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.” Aristotle
