The Morrison Ecumenical Chorus filled the sanctuary of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 601 N. Jackson Street, Morrison, IL, with majestic song, on Sunday, March 13, 2016. They are shown practicing for the performance of Lent and Easter portions of G. F. Handel’s “Messiah.” Designed to begin Holy Week on Palm Sunday, March 20, at 7:00 p.m., the public is invited to share this long-standing, every-other-year tradition.
“Messiah” concerts, which include the stirring “Hallelujah Chorus,” have been sponsored by the Morrison Ministers Council since 1956. Director Kathy Janicek, Choir Director at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Morrison, noted there are current choir members who sang in the first “Messiah” 60 years ago!
A free-will offering will be taken to cover expenses. Any excess proceeds will be used to fund other Morrison Ministers Council projects.
Singers are from Morrison, Erie, Prophetstown, Mount Carroll, and Chadwick, IL, and Clinton, IA. Accompanist will be Christine Holmer of Clinton.
