Odell Public Library’s Friends of the Library is thrilled to offer a bus trip to Chicago, IL, on Saturday, October 26, 2013. The day-long tour highlights some of Chicago’s hottest tourist attractions, along with a few hidden gems! It will led by former MJHS art instructor Ned J. Nesti, Jr.
For those who have experienced a Nesti-led tour firsthand, you know you are in for a trip of the highest quality. The first stop is Garfield Park Conservatory on Chicago’s west side, a botanical oasis filled with nearly 2000 different species of plants. Included are 40 species of palm trees, 150 species of ferns, and 600 species of cacti and succulents.
Move on to the Art Institute of Chicago, a world-class museum housing some of the largest permanent art collections in the United States. No matter what medium or century interests you, the Art Institute has something for everyone. Nesti’s tour includes an eclectic list of must-sees, including Grant Wood’s “American Gothic,” Seurat’s “A Sunday on La Grande Jatte,” and Chagall’s “America Windows,” among many others.
Relax and take in the skyline and Lake Michigan from Nichols Bridgeway. Stroll through Millennium Park, which includes such popular sites as The Crowne Fountain and Anish Kapoor’s “Cloud Gate,” more commonly known as “The Bean.”
Then select one of three drop-off locations in Chicago’s oldest and most diverse neighborhoods. Drink in the sights, sounds, and eclectic shopping of the Windy City, before being treated to a family-style dinner at Joy’s Noodles & Rice.
The bus will make one final stop to view the magnificent skyline from Montrose Harbor. This is truly a trip you won’t want to miss!
Cost is $80 and includes deluxe motor coach transportation, orientation meeting, preparation materials, admission to Garfield Park Conservatory and to the Art Institute of Chicago, and dinner/gratuity at Joy’s Noodles & Rice. Breakfast and lunch are not included.
A portion of the fee will benefit Odell Public Library. Due to the busy schedule and large amounts of walking, the trip is intended for adult travelers only. Junior High and High School students wishing to participate must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
