charles langleyCharles “Verne” Langley, age 80 of Sterling, IL, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Verne was born April 15, 1934, in Chadwick, the son of Charles J. and Lillian (Heide) Langley. He married Lois LeFevre on August 1, 1953, in Dixon, IL. She proceeded in death on August 23, 2013. Verne served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Verne worked at National Manufacturing, Nash Garage, Armor and Company, and Northwestern Steel and Wire. Verne retired in 1997. He received his Associates Degree in Business from Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon. Verne was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Sterling. He enjoyed gardening, spending time with his animals, and wood carving.

Survivors include one daughter Michele (Bill) Van Buren of Morrison, IL; one son Eric (Candice) Langley of Rock Falls, IL; six grandchildren, Travis Langley, Allyson (Joel) Van Buren-Krehbiel, Taylor Miniel, Erika Van Buren, Chayse Langley, and Autumn Van Buren; three step-grandchildren, Alexis Bauer and Kylie and Zachary Pottorff; two great-grandchildren, Haylee and MaKenzie Miniel; one sister Cheryl (Charles) Stanfield of Sterling; three brothers-in-law, Eldon (Shirley) LeFevre of Oregon, IL, Lyle (Karen) LeFevre of Dixon, and Ed Dittman of Morrison; one sister-in-law Pat LeFevre of Polo, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, and one brother Larry Langley.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2014, at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls, IL.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 13, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sterling, IL, with Reverend Paul Judd officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling, IL.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Trinity United Methodist Food Pantry or School Supply Closet.
