Morrison Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Meeting at Blue Goose Run event center, 14609 Blue Goose Road, Sterling, IL, on Thursday, February 9, 2023. Ninety-nine persons replied, and 91 attended. Socializing, drinks, and heavy hors d’oeuvres were enjoyed from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. with the meeting following.
At 6:30 the Dessert Dash began, with table participants contributing monetary “bids,” to select from a dozen, delectable, donated desserts. The fundraiser garnered $1700 for the Chamber of Commerce.
During his presentation, “Good Things are Happening in Morrison,” Guest Speaker Dr. Bradey Yaklich noted recent improvements and activities that added value to the City of Morrison. He praised numerous groups who played a part: City of Morrison; Chamber of Commerce; Department of Fun; On The Move with Parks and Recreation; Friends of the Parks; Winter Park Committee; Morrison Garden Club (photo planting trees at the Bark Park); various persons/businesses/groups who created block parties; Morrison Area Development Corporation. There was much shared pride in those endeavors.
Meridith Layne presented certificates to Board members Myra Huizenga and President Kevin Schisler. Both have completed their six-year term limit. Schisler will continue as an ex officio (non-voting) Board member.
At 7:15 the Citizen of the Year Award presentation began, with introductions of five deserving nominees. Each received a recognition certificate from Chamber Vice President Karla Burn or City Administrator Brian Melton:
1. Morrison Hospital CEO Pam Pfister, now a repeat Chamber Board member
2. nominee Trent Bush with wife Heather
3. Diana Young
4. Paula Rodriguez.
The Citizen of the Year recipient was Everett Pannier, with his daughter Sherri Pannier and son Doug Pannier. In an emotional thank you, the former Mayor shared his pride in Morrison.
