AdultBasicEdClinton Community College offers a High School Equivalency Testing (HiSET) program for people wanting to earn a High School Diploma.  Students from Illinois may enter this program.  For more information, contact Clinton Community College’s Adult Basic Education Lead Teacher, Charlene Nicoletto, at 563-244-7185, or Career Navigator, Tami Sachsenmaier, at 563-244-7050.

According to Nicoletto, “When people enter our program, they enter a network of services designed to help them succeed.  Whether the reason is to increase employability, or to work toward a personal goal, we are here to help ensure their success.  It’s never too late to start.”

Upon entering the HiSET program, students begin working with Sachsenmaier, who will aid students with job search needs and help students wanting to transition to college.   While working toward the HiSET, students study five subjects:  math, language arts reading, language arts writing, science, and social studies.  Incorporated into our program are college and career readiness skills.

As students progress through the program, they become prepared to enter the workplace or move to more advanced education.   Adult Basic Education classes are offered in the morning or evening.   A new component to our program is High Skills to HiSET, which guides students into the learning mindset.   During this program we revisit the process of becoming a successful student, practice team-building exercises, and work through time management needs of each student.

English Language Acquisition evening classes are held two nights per week.  For the person who needs to learn English, reading, listening, and writing, this is the place to be.  In addition, people attending this class will receive civics instruction, and life skills that are valuable, as parents and as workers, in our community.  As they become proficient in English, some students transition to the High School Equivalency Program.

For more information, contact Nicoletto, at 563-244-7185, or Sachsenmaier, at 563-244-7050.  Visit the CCC Learning Center at 944 Lincoln Boulevard, Clinton, IA.
