CAPA Using Local Artists to Paint the Windows

Posted by

The streets of downtown Morrison will be transformed into a work of art on Saturday, September 17, 2016, during Paint the Town.  The Children’s Art Preservation Association (CAPA) will use local artists and art students to participate in another popular aspect of this event–the painting of shop windows and storefronts on Main Street.

“Every year, over 50 downtown windows become a glass gallery of talent,” said Paintthe Town committee member and Window Chair, Carol Wolf.  “This year’s Paint the Towntheme is ‘Art Matters,’ and although window designs can be anything the artist wishes, we know this theme allows the perfect canvas for many of the window paintings to reflect what art truly means to the participants and our community.”

Painting of the windows occurs mostly during the week prior to Paint the Town, so that the artists’ finished creations can be viewed on Saturday and Sunday, with the thousands of other street masterpieces on Main and Markets.  Designers use water-soluble, tempera paint (provided) on their windows; all entrants provide their own brushes, newspaper, rags, and painter’s tape.  Windows were assigned on a first come, first served basis.  Entrants must keep the area where they are painting neat; not interfere with the merchant’s storefront or entrance; dispose of all trash.

In addition to the window and street paintings, Paint the Town will feature food vendors, musicians, and entertainers at every corner, with 2000 squares available to paint.  The celebration continues on Sunday, September 18, as Main and Market Streets remain closed for
