Pictured with some favorite playthings is Lilah Buikema, daughter of Jason and Domini Buikema. Lilah has three sisters: Cambell, 8; Harper, 6; Scarlett, 2.
Lilah was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, often referred to as LCH, a rare disease that is cancer-like. LCH may occur at any age but is most common in young children.
Langerhans cells are a type of white blood cell that normally help the body fight infection. In LCH, too many Langerhans cells are produced. They build up in certain parts of the body where they can form tumors and/or damage organs. Lilah is being treated with chemotherapy weekly into next year.
Driving back and forth to Ann and Robert Lurie’s Children Hospital in Chicago, IL, can be expensive for the Buikemas, along with ongoing medical bills. So family and friends have teamed up and our selling t-shirts to “Help Support Lilah.”
