Bring a Family Artifact to Show at the Museum

Posted by

Quickly, think of five “artifacts.”  An artifact is defined as an object produced or shaped by human craft, especially one of archaeological or historical interest.  Did you think of tools, weapons, jewelry, containers, apparel, documents, money, furniture, lodgings, or means of transport?  There is a plethora of everyday and special-use artifacts that make life easier.  Some of them are decorative, too.

Past civilizations often are defined by their distinctive artifacts, such as those from the land of ancient Egypt.  To introduce the final 2018 program by Morrison Historical Society, on Sunday, November 18, 2018, Stephanie Vavra will present “From Ancient Egypt to Morrison, IL.”  Her talk will feature reproductions of Egyptian artifacts and modern interpretations.

The building opens at 1:00, and her program begins at 1:30 p.m.

After the introduction, those attending will be invited to “show and tell” the story behind a family artifact.  Remember when the Ed Abbott family brought the notched, oak, counting stick, that recorded 28 escaping slaves Asa Abbott had helped to freedom?

What could you bring that represents your distant or recent past?  We cannot wait to see!

Morrison’s Heritage Museum is located at 202 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL.  The building is accessible to all with a ramp at the rear.  Refreshments will be served.
