Dear Editor:
John Booker, candidate for Whiteside County Sheriff, has challenged his opponent to reveal his pick for Chief Deputy.
Booker, 51, is currently the Chief Deputy of Whiteside County. He is running for Whiteside County Sheriff in this year’s General Election.
On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, Booker announced that Whiteside County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Seth Janssen is his pick for the important position of Chief Deputy.
“The voters are entitled to know how their Sheriff will make decisions once he is in office,” Booker observed. “The selection of Chief Deputy is one of the most important early decisions that a Sheriff will make,” he said at the time.
“It is simply not appropriate to wait until after the election to make this announcement,” Booker said. “It is far too important a decision to keep hidden until after the election,” he added.
Sergeant Kris Schmidt, a Patrol Officer running against Booker, has refused to reveal the identity of his choice for Chief Deputy.
“The voters have the right to know who my opponent would appoint as his Chief Deputy,” Booker said. “That is the only way that they can compare the backgrounds of the people we would place in the number two spot,” Booker added.
“It’s not a mystery to Kris who he’s chosen,” Booker said. “He shouldn’t conceal it as a mystery for the voters,” he added.
