John Booker, the Democratic candidate for Whiteside County Sheriff, has announced his pick for Chief Deputy. Booker, the current Chief Deputy of Whiteside County, has selected Whiteside County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Seth Janssen to serve. The Chief Deputy is the second in command of the entire Sheriff’s Office.
“Today, [Wednesday, September 26, 2018,] I am pleased to announce that I have selected Lieutenant Seth Janssen to serve as my Chief Deputy,” Booker said.
Janssen, 43, of rural Sterling, IL, is the married father of two children. He has been employed for 16 years in the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office. He currently holds the position of Lieutenant.
“The voters are entitled to know how their Sheriff will make decisions once he is in office,” Booker observed. “The selection of Chief Deputy is one of the most important early decisions that a Sheriff will make,” he added.
“It is simply not appropriate to wait until after the election to make this announcement,” Booker said. “It is far too important of a decision to keep hidden until after the election,” he added.
Seth Janssen is a veteran officer of the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office. He began his career as a Patrol Officer. He rose to the position of Sergeant and then worked in the Investigations division of the Sheriff’s Office. Janssen also served as the Emergency Management Coordinator of Whiteside County. He is now a Lieutenant. During his tenure, Janssen also has served as a D.A.R.E. officer and worked extensively with Whiteside County’s Drug Court program.
“I am honored by the confidence that Chief Deputy Booker has placed in me,” Janssen said. “This is a very important position, and I will work hard, every day, to earn this confidence,” he said.
Booker is running as the Democratic candidate for Whiteside County Sheriff in this year’s General Election. He has been endorsed by the current Republican Sheriff, Kelly Wilhelmi, and the former Republican Sheriff, Roger Schipper.
