Bill to Rename Post Office in Honor of Sgt. Riney Passes the Senate

SergeantDouglasRineySergeant Douglas J. Riney died defending our freedom on October 19, 2016.  He left behind his wife Kylie, two children, James and Elea, and a community that will never forget his sacrifice.

Born and raised in Fairview, IL, Sgt. Riney graduated from Spoon River Valley High School.  He volunteered as a firefighter with the Fairview Fire Protection Unit before joining the Army.  A recipient of the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, and the Purple Heart, Sgt. Riney died in Kabul, Afghanistan.  He was serving as part of the Support Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, from Fort Hood, Texas.

On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos’s bill, to rename the Fairview Post Office the “Sergeant Douglas J. Riney Post Office” after Fairview’s own fallen hero, passed the Senate.

“I am proud to see the bill renaming the Fairview Post Office in Honor of Sgt. Douglas Riney moving to the President’s desk, to be signed into law,” said Congresswoman Bustos.  “Although we will never be able to make up for the loss of Sgt. Riney, my hope is that this post office will serve as a small token of appreciation, for a brave hero who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.”
