Beverly Mara Reed, 92, of Rock Falls, IL, died on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Rock River Hospice Home in Sterling, IL.
Beverly was born January 1, 1932, in Coal Hollow, IL, the daughter of Albert and Aina (Pihl) Floyd. She was a 1949 graduate of DePue High School. Beverly married John L. Reed on November 8, 1968, in Rock Falls. He preceded her in death on February 23, 2022.
Beverly worked at the local phone company in Rock Falls. She later went on to work at and retire from the Sterling Steel and Wire Mill in Sterling when it closed. She still enjoyed lunches with some of her co-workers from the Mill.
Bev was a long-time member of the Rock Falls First Congregational Church. Several times a week she would meet a group of good friends for coffee. They always met at Taco Bell, and the employees were always so good to them. She and John loved to travel, not only within the U. S., but also abroad. Her most memorable trip was to the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. Bev’s favorite time was spent with her family. Her family remembers her as one who was always up to trying something new.
Survivors include her stepdaughters, Susan Bush, of Manistee, MI, and Sally (Jerry) Lindsey, of Morrison, IL; sister, Alanna Whitmore, of Princeton, IL; brother-in-law, Lee Miller of Tiskilwa, IL; five step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Diane Lund and Connie Miller; brother-in-law, Curtis Lund; stepson, Steven Reed.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
A private Graveside Service will be held at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, IL, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Congregational Church of Rock Falls, IL, and the Rock River Hospice & Home, Sterling, IL.
