ConnieBarrAdBest of Yesteryear is a quilt show being held in Morrison, IL, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, and from noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2015.  The venue is the Super Wash Training Center, 701 W. Lincolnway, which is handicap accessible and has great parking.  It will feature quilts from River Cities Quilt Guild, which meets regularly in Fulton, IL.

Admission is $3 and free for those 16 years of age or younger

A special addition to this year’s show is speaker Connie Barr, a member of the guild and resident of Morrison.  She will display part of her collection of Featherweight sewing machines from the 1930’s to the 1950’s, and Feedsacks, material used as packaging for everything from chicken feed to sugar and flour. These feedsacks were then used by women to make household items and clothes for the whole family.

Barr will give talks hourly during the two days.  Her informative talks will be of interest to the family.  Show attendees are invited to bring pictures of machines that they think might be Featherweights and find out how to care for them.

There will also be a Quilters’ Boutique, featuring all types of items sewn by guild members, and a Merchant Mall with two rooms of sewing machine and fabric dealers from the area.  There will also be a bed turning and a showing of antique quilts, along with their histories.  This also will be done several times during the two days.  There will be door prizes; a guessing contest using old buttons and wooden spools; a large Raffle Quilt, shown below, and two smaller raffle quilts; cookbooks published this year by the guild.

raffleQuiltAttendees will receive a flyer good for a sandwich special at the Family Chef Restaurant, directly in front of the show building.  It will be good for this weekend only–plan to enjoy brunch, lunch, or an early supper. Family Chef is owned by two brothers who have run the restaurant for over three years.  The restaurant is open all day, seven days a week, and features great food and daily specials.  People love the homey atmosphere as well as the food.  Favorites of the quilters who frequent the restaurant are the fried chicken, salmon salad, pie, and ice cream.
