Beginning Crafting Workshop

Posted by

If you desire to try a new handcraft, the Mission Group of Morrison United Methodist Church has a perfect learning opportunity.  On Saturday, July 27, 2013, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., seven women will instruct participants in six artistic techniques.  “How to Get Started” takes place in the Fellowship Hall, 200 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL.

Some hands-on sessions will be included.

The cost is merely a donation.  Reservations are not required but will be appreciated, by calling 815-772-4030.

Presenters at “How to Get Started” are

  • Card making–Barb Dondey and Nancy Poling
  • Crocheting–Jean Tichler
  • Painting for fun–Sandra Crouse
  • Quilting–Mary Vos
  • Sashay scarf--Joyce McGhee
  • Tie purse–Carol DeWitte.

Local mission work is the primary focus of the group, such as funding milk for school children and a “mitten tree” at Christmas time.

A former 4-H leader, Mary Vos is a self-taught quilter.  Since 2002 she has created over 50 quilts, tanging from crib-to-queen size.  The majority now belong to family members; some are donated as raffle prizes and fundraisers.  Only one quilt was sold–for $100–but that did not cover her expenses.

Six of Vos’s pieces are entered in the 2013 Whiteside County Fair.  The yellow pinwheel won 3rd prize in 2012.   Kittens was the second place winner in 2009.  Autumn Leaves is a first place winner.  All are queen size.
