Double Chamber of Commerce Because Nice Matters awards were presented at Northside School, 520 N. Genesee Street, Morrison, IL, at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Chamber Executive Director LeAnn Schaefer presented them to an enthusiastic group of volunteers and the building administrator.
Volunteers of Northside School have organized and rebuilt portions of the Northside playground and landscaping around the building. Thank you for being a driving force to rejuvenate a space for our kids. (Note: A special thank you goes to Scotts Hyponex for the mulch and to Crossroads Community Church for the many members that came to help!)
Left-to-right are Mark Musselman, Myra Huizenga, LeAnn Schaefer, Meridith Layne, Barbara Zigler (from Scotts Hyponex), Karla Burn, Bette Wiebenga, Karen Mayberry, Jackie Woodman (from Crossroads Community Church), Jenni Williams, Danielle Mills, Denise Batterton, Marlene Knox, Lori Hutchison, Lisa Rickels, Stephanie Vavra, and Barry Dykhuizen.
Principal Andy Harridge was nominated for his outstanding performance and interactions with the kids on a daily basis. He drys off the slides on a damp morning, pushes the kids on the swings, and plays kick ball. He takes on this duty, so the children are supervised and the teachers can get ready for their day. In most situations, students tend to avoid meeting the Principal each day. Not so at Northside Elementary. Mr. Harridge has set a different tone. This can be seen by the children and many parents that Mr. Harridge greets on the playground before school starts each day. Regardless of the weather, he is the first friendly face the children see.
