On Thursday morning, December 18, 2014, Morrison Chamber of Commerce presented its Customer Service Award to Kaywyn Beswick. She was dispensing holiday meal boxes–and hot spiced cider–at Morrison Friends Food Pantry, housed in Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL. Phil Renkes was there to assist.
Her nomination was for “going above and beyond to help others in the community; having so much energy all the time; inspiring others to lend a helping hand; not because nice is easy, but because nice matters!”
“These are my two favorite days of the year!” she stated, of her work with the Food Pantry. “We give more items [compared to other pantries] and toiletries, which can’t be bought with food stamps. We give four-to-five days’ worth of food. We have good donors!”
Beswick stated there are an average of 180-to-200 people who use the services of the MFFP each month. In 2001, they served 70 per month. “We get two-to-three new families per month; some move on.”
In December, 187 regular clients came for food; 78 returned for the special Christmas breakfast/dinner box.
